LGBTQ+ rights are under attack in the United States and globally. As of this writing, the ACLU is tracking more than 500 anti-LGBTQ+ bills in the U.S. alone. While self-disclosure has always carried risk for LGBTQ+ professionals, it can feel particularly tricky, confusing, and downright unsafe in the current political climate. I’m a career and executive coach for tech leaders, and even the most confident individuals bring me questions and uncertainty about disclosure. That’s why I dedicated this month’s Career Directors International article to the questions LGBTQ+ leaders bring me most often on this topic: 🏳️🌈 Is coming out at work the right decision for me? 🏳️🌈 How can I tell if my employer is actually LGBTQ+-friendly? 🏳️🌈 When should I come out at work? 🏳️🌈 Should I come out during a job interview? 🏳️🌈 What are the benefits and risks of coming out at work? Coming out is a deeply personal decision with no universal answer. It requires honest reflection to find the path that aligns with your goals and your safety. 👉🏼 Read the article to navigate disclosure in the workplace in 2026. And if you identify as an ally, this one is for you, too. Understanding what your LGBTQ+ colleagues are weighing makes you a more informed and effective advocate. Reading this article is a practical step you can take to show up for LGBTQ+ professionals on your team and in your life.
